It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Janet Marie Anderson Shufflebarger, who passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on November 16, 2024 at the age of 83.
Born on January 23, 1941, in Bud, WV, to the late Paul and Josephine Anderson, she grew up in Bud surrounded by her Titta Family after her father's passing during a battle in World War II. She later moved to Beckley, where she lived in her current home for 50 years. She was a loving wife to her late husband John, a devoted mother to her children John and Jamie, and dedicated Mawmaw to her grandchildren, Alison, Hannah, David, and Hunter.
Janet lived a fulfilling life and was a woman of many talents. She had a passion for cooking and baking, and her homemade dishes were always the highlight of family gatherings. She also had a green thumb and loved tending to her flowers, herbs, and the garden, which was always in full bloom. As her boys grew older, she began working at Charlton's Furniture, later buying and running the Beckley business for many years. Once her grandchildren arrived, she enjoyed spoiling, feeding, and taking care of them. She was always a supporter of their activities and attended many of their events. She was the voice of the crowd and loved to cheer with the most enthusiasm.
As many knew and called her by Sweetsie; she was kind and generous, always checking on others and making sure they had a warm meal or what they needed. Her love language of food extended to all those who knew her, and she will always be remembered for her spunky personality.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons and daughters-in-law, John (Debbie) of Crab Orchard, and Jamie (Nikki) of Beckley, her grandchildren, Alison (Jacob) Roark of Charleston, WV, Hannah Shufflebarger of Lewisburg, WV, David Shufflebarger of Crab Orchard, WV, and Hunter Shufflebarger of Beckley, WV.
Her loving and devoted brother and sister-in-law Maurice (Barbara) Anderson of Virginia Beach, Va. Sweetsie looked forward to their multiple talks every week, exchanging recipes and sharing stories. She had many nieces, nephews and cousins that she dearly loved.
All who will miss her dearly.
We would like to thank Lisa Walker and staff, Dr.Kashyap and staff, Dr. John Tabit and staff, and Hospice of Southern West Virginia for their excellent care and compassion.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley, WV with Pastor Sam Green officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Southern WV in memory of Janet Shufflebarger. Pallbearers will be grandsons and family.
Rest in peace, mom. You will forever be in our hearts and memories.
