Jerome "Jerry" Roger Kirk, Sr.

Jerome Roger Kirk, Sr. (Jerry), 82, of Hinton, West Virginia, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Bowers Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy illness complicated by diabetes and heart failure.

Jerry was born on December 23, 1943, in Elkton, Maryland, to the late William Russell Kirk and Rosalee Harris Kirk. At a very young age, his family relocated to Hinton, West Virginia, which would become his beloved hometown for the majority of his life.

Many believed fate brought Jerry and the love of his life, Alice G. Kirk, together. The two first met when Jerry was only three years old while his mother cared for Alice's grandmother. Growing up together, their friendship blossomed into a lifelong love story. After much persistence, devotion, and a promise to God, Jerry convinced Alice to marry him, and the couple was united in marriage in 1962. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and unconditional love. This year would have marked 64 years of marriage-a milestone few are blessed to achieve. Through every triumph, challenge, blessing, and hardship, they remained steadfast by each other's side.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army for more than five years. Following his military service, he worked in several professions, including a Hotel Chain Manager and Truck Driver. However, his greatest professional accomplishments came alongside his wife, Alice, as they spent more than 58 years operating their family businesses, including a construction company and Kirk's Market & Cafe in downtown Hinton where he became known as "the boss man". Through their dedication and hard work, they built not only successful businesses but a lasting legacy that touched countless lives throughout the years.

Jerry will be remembered for his strong work ethic, faith, and deep love of his family. Many cherished family memories were made through his love of hunting and fishing, searching for ginseng, annual trips to the State Fair of West Virginia with his grandchildren, and countless hours spent working together building the family businesses. Even though many knew he could be sometimes difficult to deal with, and 'stubborn' doesn't do him justice, we will still remember the guidance, wisdom, and strength that left an immeasurable impact on those fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his siblings, Lois Hall, Donald Hall, and Roy Reed; son-in-law, Harold Richmond; and grandson, Harold Richmond, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife of 63 years, Alice G. Kirk; his children, Jerome "Binky" Kirk Jr. (wife Hope), Pamela "Pam" Kirk Patrick (husband David), Paula Kirk Richmond; his grandchildren, Amanda Kirk, Christopher Kirk, Tyler Kirk, Chase Kirk, Jacob Kirk, Lilly Kirk; his great-grandchildren, Gracie Richmond, Dean Richmond, and Brenton Richmond; his special nephew, William "Bill" Bowles; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Jerry was especially grateful for the friendship, support, and companionship shown to him throughout his illnesses, hospitalizations, and home care by David Roy, Jay Sears, Ray Gill, Pastor Larry Bennett, Bill Blackburn, Michael Brown, Jerod Pack, Jerry Wheeler, Gary Wheeler, Mike Cooper, Bobby Cales, and Mike Gravely.

Though his earthly journey has come to an end, his legacy of faith, perseverance, love, and dedication to family will continue through the generations he leaves behind.

A Memorial Service will  be held to Celebrate The Life of Jerome R. "Jerry" Kirk Sr. on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 2:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church in Hinton, WV, with Rev. Jon Elardo officiating.
