Jerry Wayne Kessinger, age 79, of Mount Hope, WV passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at Beckley Healthcare Center.

Born on May 14, 1947 in Mount Hope, WV, he was the son of the late Forrest Kessinger and Kathleen Underwood Kessinger. 

Mr. Kessinger was reared by his aunt and uncle, Cecil and Oleda Cooper.

Mr. Kessinger was a retired insurance agent, and was a former coal miner. He was a member of the UMWA, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Kessinger enjoyed hunting in his spare time.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Cheryl Kessinger in 2012; by a brother Doyle Kessinger.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his daughter Christina Kessinger of Mount Hope; a sister Jane Wheeler and husband Jim of Beckley; nephews Dwayne Kessinger of Mount Hope, Jamie Wheeler of Huntington, and Brian Wheeler; of Beckley a niece Kathy Jennings of South Carolina.

Graveside rites and burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 2:30 PM, with Michael Kessinger officiating. 

There will be no visitation.
