Jerry Lee Martin

Jerry Lee Martin, 74, of Glen View, WV, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, October 26, 2025, following a short illness.

Born at home on April 30, 1951, he was the son of Arnold William Martin and Rosie Lee Martin.

Over the years, Jerry held many job titles—from teacher at Mark Twain High School, to chimney sweep, to his final career as a registered nurse for 20 years at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Jerry gave his life to Jesus at just 9 years old during Vacation Bible School and faithfully served his Savior throughout his life. He was a lifelong member of Glen View Independent Baptist Church, where he led music, served as a deacon, Bible teacher, and youth leader.

He loved nature and was an avid gardener who could identify any plant. Though he often said he was a "jack of all trades and a master of none," those who knew him best would say he was truly a "jack of all trades and a master of all." Jerry was full of wisdom and could fix anything.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter, Amanda Derringer.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy Martin; six children: Trina Allen and husband Richard of Pax, Jonathan Martin and wife Courtney of Crab Orchard, David Martin and wife Beth of Crab Orchard, Leann Chesley and husband Chris of Beckley, Matthew Martin and wife Erika of Prosperity, and Ryan Martin of Crab Orchard.

Surviving siblings include Phillip Martin and wife Anita of Crab Orchard, Diana Gray and husband Jerald of Shady Spring, Charles Martin and wife Becky of Beckley, and Nancy Kassaee and husband Ali of Pennsylvania.

One of his favorite titles was Papaw to his 17 grandchildren: Kayla, Kelsi, Christian, Joanna, James, Josiah, Ethan, Micheal, Carter, Gabriel, Michael, Sara, Aubri, Addison, Aiden, Gavin, and Reagan. He often joked that "grandchildren are God's gift for not killing your children." Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

Services to celebrate the life of Jerry Martin will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Faith Baptist Church, 480 Prosperity Road, with Pastor Duane Pease officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, prior to the service.
