Jerry Smith

Jerry D. 'Butch' Smith of Beckley passed away on November 10, 2024 after a short illness.

Born on 10/24/1947 in Mullins, WV, he was the son of the late William H. And Izora Cook Smith.

Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Beckley, for the past 30 years he was the General Manager of the Shady Spring Public Service District, he was also a member of Beckley Moose Lodge #1606.

Butch Smith has served the Raleigh County Community for most of his life, including being a Sheriff Deputy and Detective for the Raleigh County Sheriff Department. Mr. Smith served in the US Army.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, William and Izora Smith, brothers, Billy Smith and Chuck Smith, and his beloved uncle, Harry Cook and Gene Cook, and step-mother, Arlet McKinney.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Smith; his children, Ronald Smith and partner Lisa Redden, his youngest son, Jerry Smith and wife, Christy Smith of Shady Spring; his sister, Diane and Waldo Graham of Rich Creek, Virginia;  by his grandchildren, Christopher Smith and wife, Hannah Smith of Beckley, Cody and Zach Smith of Fairmont, West Virginia, a grandson, John and Kelsie Adkins of Bragg, West Virginia, and great grandchildren, Preston and Jackson Adkins of Bragg and Skylar Smith all of Beckley.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 6:00 pm-9:00 PM at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, 1901 S. Kanawha Street,  Beckley, WV. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM with the burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Keith Manning will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Southern WV.
