Jesus took Johnny to Heaven on Sunday, June 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Johnny was 58 years old.

Born July 21, 1967 to Abraham Lincoln Stover and Catherine B. Stover Wood. Johnny was preceded in death in by his father, Lincoln Stover, his step dad Edward Wood and a nephew, Luke Stover.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving son, John Matthew Stover of Beckley; his mother Catherine (Stover) Wood of Eccles, who cherished Johnny and took excellent care of him; his brother Dale Stover of New Mexico; sister Cathy Harper and husband Alan; brother William Stover and wife Christy ("Johnny's buddy"); brother Steven Stover, (his pastor and wife Christy), and brother Harless Stover, all of Beckley. Johnny also has many loving nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces, who will miss him as well.

Johnny was a member of Life Point Ministries in Eccles, WV. Johnny had a deep love for Jesus and his family. Johnny truly enjoyed attending church services at Life Point Ministries and Mabscott Holiness Church. Johnny loved his pastors, Brother Steven Stover and Brother Buzz Keller. Johnny loved talking with people, enjoying their company and making them laugh.

Johnny was a Great witness for Jesus. Johnny loved riding horses as a young man with his brothers Dale, William and Steven. He loved "coon" hunting with his brothers William, Steven and Alan. Although Johnny was blind, he participated in all family events. He loved playing baseball with his siblings with a ball that beeped. Johnny learned to play the guitar as a young man. Johnny rode his bicycle like a pro, feeling the land beneath him. Johnny was an avid swimmer and hiker. As an adult, Johnny's favorite thing to do was spending time with his son John Matthew. They lifted weights together, went on many hikes, loved watching movies, and laughing together. Johnny loved vacationing with his mother and family. Johnny enjoyed hanging out with his sister, and being her childhood best friend. He loved listening to his brother Harless sing while he took such special care of Johnny at the Raleigh Center.

The family especially wishes to thank Dr. Raheem, for the considerate loving care he provided over the past eight years.

Services will be Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Mabscott Holiness Church. Family visitation will be from 11:00 AM until noon. Friends may visit with the family from noon until 1:00 PM, with the funeral service beginning immediately at 1:00 PM. Speakers will be Daniel and Samuel Harper, with Rev. Eddie Tucker officiating.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Zack, Willie, Caleb, Ben, David and Joel. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

For reasons of allergies, the family requests please no perfume, cologne or body spray. If you plan to send flowers, please send silk arrangements.
