Joseph William Calvert

Joseph William Calvert, age 71, of Crab Orchard, WV passed away at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

Born on May 3, 1952 at Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late Forster Gaines Calvert and Anna Kathleen Maxey Calvert.

Mr. Calvert was a retired coal miner, and a member of the UMWA.  He was a member of Grace Primitive Baptist Church at Shady Spring, where he served as deacon.

"Joe Bill" as he was known by his family and friends, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and music. He was an avid outdoorsman who was an advocate for fair chase hunting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Sandra Kathleen Griffith.

Those survivors left  to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 52 years, Jane England Calvert. Three daughters, Heather Jo Blake and husband Alfred Blake II of Crab Orchard, Kristen Nicole Miller and husband Glenn of Morgantown, and Season Ja'nan Martin and husband Jeff of Morgantown. Seven grandchildren, Emmalie, Joseph, Coleman and Morgan Blake, Trenton and Greyson Miller and Pepper Martin. A niece Melinda Gail Grant of California, and a nephew Derek Wayne Griffith of Georgia.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 1 PM with Elder Keith Mills officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery at Sandstone, WV. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
