Joseph Galen Stephens

Joseph Galen Stephens, age 86, of Fitzpatrick, WV passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.

Born on September 2,1939 in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late Joseph Stephens and Margaret Montgomery Stephens.

Mr. Stephens served in the US Army, and was a jack-of-all-trades. He was an excellent plumber and carpenter, was a former coal miner, and last was employed as a maintenance supervisor for the Town of Lester.

Mr. Stephens was an ordained minister, and had formerly pastored a church in Lester, WV. He was a member of Spoken Word Tabernacle on Scott Ridge Road, in Beaver, WV.

Mr. Stephens enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Frances Stephens; a great grandson, Axil Musick; a daughter Sharon Foster; a sister Brenda Atkins; a brother Roger Stephens; an infant sister Josephine.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his sons, Michael G. Stephens and wife Connie of Fitzpatrick, and Scott Stephens and wife Barbara of Alderson; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister Debra K. of Hinton, and a brother Mark Wayne, also of Hinton.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Amos E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley, WV. on Friday, April 3, 2026 at 3:00 PM Pastor Ronnie Lilly and Pastor Ivan England officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery at Freezeland Mountain, WV. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
