Juanita Riffe passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024, in Beckley, WV.
Born on January 11, 1940, in Fayetteville, WV, Juanita was the daughter of Olen and Beuna (Cregar) Morrison of Fayetteville, WV, and the oldest of three daughters.
She was the head majorette at Nuttall High School. After graduating from high school in 1958, she attended Beckley College, and then spent a short time as a clerical typist in Washington, D.C. After returning to WV, she met and married Donald E. Riffe, Sr., then settled in Beckley where they raised three children: Don, Jr., Brian and Tamarha. Juanita retired from the Raleigh County Board of Education after 30 years of employment in elementary school clerical positions and at the Raleigh County Board of Education main office. She enjoyed time with her family and was an avid supporter of her children's various school activities.
Juanita enjoyed playing the piano, and singing in the church choir and trio at Memorial Baptist Church, where the family attended for many years. She felt great pride in sharing her experience of learning to drive on Fayette Station Road, which was a very challenging road full of hairpin turns and steep grades. The road was so challenging that the state police issued her license without any question or any additional testing.
Preceded in death by her oldest son and his wife (Donald Riffe, Jr. and Jeannie Verdine Riffe), Juanita is survived by her loving husband, Donald a/k/a "Shorty"; her son, Brian (Linda) Riffe, her daughter, Tamarha Riffe (Keith) Evert; grandchildren, Joshua (Trista) Riffe, Kaitlin (Luke) Uding, Kara Riffe, Brianne Riffe (Zach), Brett Riffe (Whitney), Mellina Evert (Micah), Rylee Evert; and several great grandchildren. Other survivors include her sisters Ruth Ann Haga and Janice Perry and their families.
Juanita's family extends their sincere appreciation to the many loving friends, and nurses and doctors who cared for her during her brief illness, with special recognition and gratitude to the staff and medical team at Bowers Hospice House. Your love and care were a true blessing!
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Clifftop Missionary Baptist Church, at 1:00pm. Visitation will begin at 12:00pm. Thereafter, Juanita will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Joshua Riffe (grandson), Brett Riffe (grandson), Ed Perry, Jr. (nephew), Dale Walker (dear friend), Jack Bryant (dear friend), and Kerry Tincher (dear friend) will serve as pallbearers.
