Obituary

Judy Lynn Thompson, born July 12, 1970, in Beckley, West Virginia, passed away on October 14, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, a whole lot of stories, and absolutely no apologies for being exactly who she was.

Standing just 4’10” and weighing 90 pounds on a good day, Judy may have been little in stature, but nobody who knew her would ever accuse her of having a small personality. Lovingly called “Little One” by her father, family, and friends, she was proof that dynamite comes in small packages. Judy was extremely outspoken, unapologetically herself, and never one to worry about what anybody thought of her. She said what was on her mind, did things her way, and never felt the need to fit into anyone else’s idea of who she should be. You always knew where you stood with her, and if you didn’t like what she had to say… well, that was something you had to work out on your own. She wasn’t here to please everybody, and she certainly wasn’t going to start now.

Beneath that big, bold spirit was a woman with a huge heart who loved deeply, fought like hell, and knew how to have a damn good time. Judy was a fighter when life got tough, a lover when it mattered most, and the kind of person who made the most of it wherever she went. She loved spending time with her little dog, Pretty Girl, riding her four-wheeler, big trucks, Harley Davidson motorcycles, Michael Kors purses, Dale Earnhardt, guns and mud, getting out into the woods, and camping with her family at Camp Creek and Indian Creek. Whether she was surrounded by family, laughing with friends, or simply enjoying being outdoors, she knew how to appreciate the good times and make the most of life.

Above all else, Judy loved being a mother, and Chelsea was the light of her life. For the 21 years they had together, being Chelsea’s mom was an important part of who Judy was. When Chelsea passed away, Judy’s world changed forever. For the past 11 years, she carried Chelsea’s memory with her, cherishing the moments they shared and keeping her daughter close in her heart. Losing Chelsea left a hole that could never be filled, but the love between them never went away. Chelsea remained a part of Judy in everything she did, and she continued to honor her daughter’s memory and love her just as much as she always had.

Now, Judy has been welcomed into the loving arms of her beloved Chelsea and her husband, Lee, who passed before them. After 11 long years apart from her daughter, and twenty long years apart from her husband, there is comfort in knowing Judy, Lee and Chelsea are together with no more goodbyes, no more heartache, and all the time in the world to be a whole family once again.

Judy is preceded in death by her daughter, Chelsea Lynn Thompson; husband, Estel Lee Thompson; parents, Elizabeth Lucille Coy Dodson and James Dempsey Dodson; brothers, James Dempsey Dodson and Ronnie Lee Dodson; and her dear friend, Wayne Roop.

Judy leaves behind her sisters, Carol Brammer and Shirley Martin; stepdaughters, Chrystal Massie and Stephanie Thompson; nephew, Jamie Blevins; and nieces, Kristen Hale and Michaela Martin Guyer.

Judy’s life was never about being quiet, keeping everyone happy, or worrying about fitting in. She was here to live, to love, to fight, to laugh, and to do things her way. She may not have been everybody’s cup of tea, but she was herself. There will never be another quite like her.
