Labetta Myrtle Lilly

LaBetta Myrtle Bowling Lilly, age 88, formerly of Beaver, WV passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026 in Downers Grove, IL.

Born on May 24, 1937 in Ghent, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Sue Griffith Bowling.

Mrs. Lilly was a retired elementary school teacher.  During her forty year career in Raleigh County, she taught 5th and 6th grades at Mabscott Elementary, and first grade at Beaver Elementary. She definitely had a gift for teaching children how to read.

Mrs. Lilly was a graduate of Shady Spring High School Class of 1955 and Marshall University. She was of the Baptist faith.

LaBetta was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth L. Lilly, her five siblings and parents.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her three children, Kenneth Lee Lilly, Jr. and his wife Carol of Westfield, IN; Steven Mark Lilly, MD and his wife Robyn of Richardson, TX; and Susan Elaine Petersen and her husband Brian of Hinsdale, IL. She was also the cherished Nana of Kate and Abby Lilly and Caroline Petersen.

Private funeral services for her children will be conducted at the Amos E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of  Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 2 PM. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beckley Area Foundation in LaBetta's memory.
