Lena Belle Hatcher

Lena Belle Crawford Hatcher, age 95, of Ghent, WV passed away on  Monday, December 25,2023 at the Raleigh Center in Daniels, WV.

Born on August 12, 1928 in Ghent, WV, she was the daughter of the late Acy Howard Crawford Sr. and Vota Baye Moye Crawford.

Lena taught school for many years in Portsmouth, Virginia before  moving back to WV, where she taught 10 years at Ghent Elementary. Her hobbies were crocheting, decorating her home, coloring, bingo, and visiting family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Howard Levi Hatcher in 1978; sisters Ella Harvey, Garnet Massie, Gladys Massie, and Pauline Crews; brothers, Acy Howard Crawford Jr., and Franklin Dee Crawford; nephews Larry and Marty Crawford.

Lena is survived by a sister, Mintie Mae Underwood of Virginia, and several nieces, including  Ruth Ann Crawford,  Elaine Smith and Stephanie Page; nephews including Jeff Crawford, and several cousins including Phyllis Farley of Glen Morgan.

Graveside rites and burial will be conducted at the James Lark Crawford Cemetery at Ghent, WV on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 2:30 PM with Elder Allen Page officiating.

There will be no  visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Raleigh County, 325 Grey Flats Road, Beckley, WV 25801.
