Leonard Quincy Clay

Leonard Quincy Clay, age 82, of Glen Daniel, WV, formerly of Beckley, WV passed away at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, WV on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

Born on December 1, 1942 in Beckley, he was the son of Arbutus Dillon Clay of Glen Daniel, and the late Quincy Hughes Clay.

Mr. Clay was a graduate of Trap Hill High School and Morris Harvey College with a B.A. Degree in Education. He taught at Marsh Fork High School and Eccles Junior High School. Mr. Clay finished his career as Attendance Director for Raleigh County Schools.

Mr. Clay was a member of the Soil Conservation Committee, and the Beckley Masonic Lodge, #95 A.F. & A.M.

He enjoyed farm work, car restoration, and spending time with his good friend, Delbert Peters.

He was preceded in death by his father, Quincy Hughes Clay, maternal grandparents Quincy and Nancy Dillon, and paternal grandmother Nancy Clay.

Those  survivors left to cherish his memory include his mother, Arbutus Dillon Clay; children, Leonard Clay II and wife Katherine of Palm Coast, FL,  Angela Clay of Beckley, and Leah-Ann Schmid and husband Robert III of White Oak; grandchildren, Aaron and wife Erica Clay of Palm Coast, FL, Lacie Clay of  Palm Coast, FL, Robert Schmid IV, and Caleb and Abigail Schmid, all of White Oak ; a great grandson Aidan Clay of Palm Coast, FL; a sister Nancy Clay Gentry and husband David of Beckley; a niece Lori Knight of Glen Daniel.   He also leaves behind his special friend and long term companion Lou Reid.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Amos E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley, WV on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley, WV. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
