Leva Jean Valentine

Leva Jean Valentine, age 80, of Concord, NC, formerly of Beckley, WV passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving  family.

Born on January 20, 1945 in Beckley, WV, she was  the daughter of the late Islet Blake Keener and Eugene Echols Keener.

Leva was a cosmetologist for many years, and loved spending time with her family, cooking and doting over her grandchildren. She enjoyed making ceramics and wreaths.

In addition to her parents, Leva was preceded in death by daughter Kelly Jean Valentine; granddaughter Olivia Jean Epley; by siblings Denzil Keener, Ray Keener, and Patricia Sue Ayers.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her children, Paige Ballas and husband Dennis of Concord, NC, Shawn Harpel and wife Abbie of Locust Grove, Virginia, and Valerie Leigh Browning of Beckley. A brother, Carson Dana  Keener of  Whiting, New Jersey; grandchildren, Aisha, Adam, Jessie, Michael, Faith, and Autumn; thirteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Leva also leaves behind many friends to cherish her memory.

A memorial service to Celebrate the Life of Leva Jean Valentine will be held at  the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, WV on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Keith Manning officiating. The burial of her cremains will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery at Oak Grove, near MacArthur, WV. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home one hour prior to the services on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
