Linda Lamb Scott

Linda Lee Lamb Scott, 77, of Grandview, passed peacefully from this world on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Born on November 15, 1947, she was the daughter of the late James Leo Lamb and Colleen Akers Lamb Ellison.

Linda was a graduate of Shady Spring High School, and received her nursing degree from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Huntington. She married Randy, her high school sweetheart on August 10, 1968.

Linda was the first Oncology certified nurse in West Virginia and worked for Dr. Carl Larson as head of the oncology nursing department, first at the Southern WV Clinic and then at Raleigh Regional Cancer Center. She received national recognition for her contributions to Clinical Oncology Nursing, and was a highly regarded speaker for the Oncology Nursing Society and the WV Nurses Association.

She spent over 40 years striving to provide the best possible care for her patients, and spoke of how honored she was to be charged with caring for God's sick children. She spent countless hours educating  and praying with patients and their families, as she believed true care went far beyond administering medicine.

Linda was a true testament to her faith. She was a lifelong member of Daniels Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.

Following her retirement from the cancer center, Linda became a caregiver for her mother until her passing in 2019. The plans she had for retirement…travel, volunteer work, spending time with her grandchildren…sadly never came to fruition. Dementia is a thief.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Leo Lamb and nephew, John Douglas Lamb.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Randy Scott, daughter Sally Ratcliff and husband, Doug, her son Steven Scott and wife, Candie,  all of Grandview. Grandchildren Leo and Sofie Attilli, Colton, Cooper and Dalton Ratcliff, Jacob Dove-Scott and his mother, Michelle Dove, Kamryn Scott, Amber, Caleb,Sara, Jamie and Xander Johns, and Brittney Bragg, sisters in law, Leanna Lamb and Robin Whitener, and many dear cousins. She will be sadly missed by her beloved work family and best friends from the cancer center, and Mary Pittman, Susan Stewart, Tara Ramey and Dixie Howell who loved and cared for Linda at home.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at the Rose & Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, WV with Dr. Howard Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Visitation will be 6:00-9:00 PM Tuesday, December 10, at the funeral home.
