Lois Jean Lilly Lawson, age 76, of Beckley, WV, died peacefully at home on Friday, February 28, 2025. Born December 9, 1948, she was the third of five children born to the late Dorse and Marie Kenney Lilly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson Justin Lawson, a paternal aunt Sadie McCormick, and a maternal uncle Edward V. Kenney.
Born and raised in Beckley, Mrs. Lawson was a 1966 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and the Raleigh County Vocational Technical Center as an LPN. She was a homemaker and enjoyed planting flowers, gardening, cooking, and taking care of others. She was a member of Mabscott Freewill Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir as well as solo.
Mrs. Lawson was unwavering in her faith in the Lord. Her service to her church and community was tireless as she provided meals, care, and comfort for many. She consistently put others first and constantly gave of herself, touching many lives in her lifetime. She exhibited patience, kindness, honesty, and most of all love. She loved taking care of her family and was indeed the glue that kept everyone together.
"She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness." (Proverbs 31: 25-26).
She will always be close in heart to her beloved family: her husband of 57 years, John Abe Lawson; children, Johny Martin and wife Meli of Germany, Stephen Lawson and wife Karen of Manila, Philippines; Mike Lawson and companion J.D. Wright of Mt. Hope; Sherri Lawson Dorsey and her husband Eric of Fayetteville, and Leigh Ann Lawson Knott and husband Doug of Beckley; adopted daughter-in-law Amy Lowe Lusk; grandchildren Seth (Amanda), Brooke, Tyler (Brooke), Zachary, Alex, Makiah, Jordan, Olivia, Brandon (Amber), Scott, Kyle (Amber), Lauren (Bradley),Emily and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving siblings, Margie Cox and husband Delmas of Shady Spring; Ann Lilly and husband Roger of Beckley; Nancy Snuffer and husband Raymond of Great Falls, South Carolina, and Wayne Lilly and wife Mary of Crab Orchard, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lawson selflessly donated her remains to the WV School of Osteopathic Medicine. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 4:00pm at Mt. View Church of God in Hilltop with Pastor Kevin Taylor and Pastor Larry Humphrey officiating. Visitation with family will be held at the church from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. Mrs. Lawson's memorial service will live stream on the church's Facebook page at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Hospice of Southern West Virginia in Mrs. Lawson's name. The care and comfort they provided for her and her family was truly a blessing.
