Lucy "Cricket" Ashley

Lucy "Cricket" Hale Ashley, 67 of Mullens, WV passed away June 2, 2024 after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Ashley was born November 23, 1956 to the late Fount and Lucy Hale.

In addition to her parents, Cricket was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Eugene Ashley II; siblings Debbie & Nelson Lane, Rita Hale, Anna Reeves and Carol McKinney; in-laws Claude and Pauline Ashley and best friend, Kay Thomas.

Cricket leaves behind her husband of over 50 years, Charles "Mouse" Ashley. Children Marty & Amanda Ashley of Shady Spring, Max & April Ashley and granddaughter, Emily Ashley, all of Mullens. Brothers Peyton Hale of Pineville and Mike and Debbie Hale of Beckley, sisters Sylvia & Calvin Sizemore of White Oak, Kathy Hale of Mullens, Diane & James Stephenson of Mt. Airy, NC. She leaves behind many nieces & nephews and a multitude of friends who were a part of her 3rd Base family.

An avid WVU fan, Cricket enjoyed watching Mountaineer sporting events, going to yard sales and baking her famous carrot cakes for family at Thanksgiving. As the 1983-84 President of the Wyoming County Ladies Club, Cricket helped secure an electronic scoreboard for the Mullens Little League Field. She and son, Marty, were known for hosting many fundraisers at 3rd Base to benefit needs in the Mullens community.

Funeral services will be at 1 PM on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Rose & Quesenberry Funeral Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Scott Lester officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley, WV. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Mark Mongeni, Brad Lane, Brian Laxton, Mikey Hale, Tommy Wikel and Todd VanDunk.
