Mable Joyce Pennington

Mable Joyce Goddard Pennington, age 88, born in Arcola, Saskatchewan, Canada, July 3, 1935, passed from this life into her heavenly home, on January 21, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar H. and Mable A. Goddard and five brothers, Irving Goddard, Calvin Goddard, Robert Goddard, Richard Goddard, and Charles Goddard, and two sisters, Mae Goddard Peters, and Mildred Goddard Ulrich.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Reverend Ernest C. Pennington, two sons, Keith (Linda) Pennington of Lakeland, FL, Gary (SueAnne) Pennington of Parkersburg, WV and one daughter, Lavonne (Dan) Boothe of Beckley, WV. Four grandchildren also survive her, Koby, Brianna, Travis, and Alex, two sisters, Olive Goddard Aspinall and Violet Goddard Brown of Estevan, Saskatchewan and a host of nieces and nephews.

She attended school grades one through eight in a one room schoolhouse in Wordsworth, Saskatchewan, Canada. She is a 1953 graduate of International Bible College in Outram (now located in Moose Jaw, Sask.).

She, along with her husband Ernest, pastored churches in Estevan, Sask., Burdett, Sask., Wahpeton, North Dakota, Bismark, North Dakota, Gallatin, Tennessee, North Portal, Sask., Saskatoon, Sask., West Haven, Connecticut, Bruno, West Virginia, Kenova, West Virginia and Petersburg, West Virginia. They worked at the International Bible College in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in the mid to late 1960's, before entering pastoral work full time in 1971.

She taught piano from her home for many years and for several years, she was a piano teacher at Showtime Music. She enjoyed chartering buses and scheduling bus trips across the United States. She also organized trips to London, Scotland, Australia, Fiji, and New Zealand.

After she and her husband retired from full time pastoring, they began filling in at churches around the state of West Virginia, that were need of an interim pastor. They served as the Spirit Care Directors of West Virginia for 18 years, ministering to retired ministers and widows. She also enjoyed writing Life Related Stories for the Adult Sunday School literature.

She enjoyed singing in the Heritage Choir at the Family Worship Center and working in Fishes and Loaves. She also enjoyed working in the polls during election time.

The celebration of our Wife and Mother's life will be Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Family Worship Center in Beckley, WV. Family Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00; Friends Visitation will be from 11:00 – 12:00 and the service will be at 12:00 with Pastor Luke Hodges and Reverend David Jarvis officiating. Graveside service will follow immediately after the service at Resthaven, Princeton, WV.
