Mack Skaggs

Lt. Col. Mack Skaggs, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

Mack was born in Beckley, West Virginia on August 18, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, V. Mark Skaggs and Virginia Skaggs; his twin brother, Mark Skaggs; and other family members.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Tammy Skaggs of Daniels; his daughter Angela Skaggs Farmer of Hurricane; his son Todd Skaggs of North Carolina; stepdaughter Chessie Collins of Daniels; sister Pat Lewis of Georgia; five grandchildren – Hailey Skaggs Overman, Tanner Skaggs, Luke Mann, Christian Farmer, Shawn Farmer; and numerous family members and friends.

Mack was a 1960 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia, and later received an undergraduate degree from West Virginia University and a graduate degree from Marshall University.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Mack was a graduate of OCS Class 6-65 at Fort Benning, Georgia in June 1965, served in Korea, and was stationed in multiple other domestic locations.  In addition to his U.S. Army service, he served as a member of the National Guard in Charleston, West Virginia, and was an active member and chaplain of American Legion Post 32 in Beckley.

Following his military service, Mack worked professionally as a forester, a safety director in the mining industry in the state of West Virginia, finished his career with the Department of Environmental Protection in Oak Hill, West Virginia, and served as secretary at the Raleigh County Veterans Museum in Beckley.

Visitation will take place at Rose and Quesenberry in Beckley, West Virginia on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 12 : 00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, and concluding with a committal service at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley, West Virginia at approximately 3:00 PM with Dr. Scott Pauley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in honor of Mack be made to the Raleigh County Veterans and First Responders Museum, ATTN: Ron Hedrick, P.O. Box 3165, Beckley, West Virginia 25801.
