Marie Jones

Gladys Marie Beard Jones, age 68, of Beckley, passed away on May 24, 2024, at Bowers Hospice House after a long illness.

She was born on January 2, 1956, in Welch, WV, to the late James Billups and Mable LeeAnn Staples-Beard.

Gladys, affectionately known as Marie, was a highly respected Registered Nurse who dedicated over thirty years of service to Raleigh General Hospital. Starting as a CNA and later becoming a Registered Nurse. Her caring nature and bedside manner extended beyond her profession and into her love and care of her family, friends, and extended family. Her light and comfort will be greatly missed by her friends and her family.

Marie was deeply loved by her husband of 46 years until his passing in 2019. Together, they raised a son and daughter and were blessed with grandchildren. Known for her beautiful smile, kindness, intelligence, wisdom, medical insight and peaceful disposition, Gladys was also a woman of faith. Marie was a minister and faithful member of the Glorious COGIC, Mt. Hope, WV. Under the leadership of Elder Thomas Allen. She loved her Pastor and church family, and the love was reciprocated.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Daniel Jones, daughter, Andrea Danielle Jones-Thompson, brothers, Bobby Little, Robert B. Beard, Kerry Billups, Sonny Billups and sister, Rolean Williams.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Shaun Andre Jones (Stasi) of Beckley, sister, Nina Palmer of Chicago, IL, brother, Charles J. Beard (Donita) of Beckley, grandchildren, Raheem Bond, Kishaun Jones, Taylee Payne, and Izaiah Jones, all of Beckley. A great grand dog, Luna and a host of nephews, nieces, in-laws, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will take place Monday, June 3, 2024 at 12 PM at Heart of God Ministries, Beckley, WV with Elder Thomas Allen, Elder Olinda Smith, Elder Mark Walker, Sr., Bishop James Jones and Dr. Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 11 AM until service time on Monday at the church.
