Martin Eugene Sargent Jr., age 52, of Crab Orchard, WV passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Raleigh General Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Born on September 30, 1972 in Mullens, WV, he was the son of the late Martin Eugene Sargent Sr. and Kathy Sue Bailey Sargent.
Martin, as he was known by all his family and friends, grew up in Rhodell, WV. He was a graduate of Independence High School, Class of 1990, and was an employee of WVU Tech, serving in the maintenance department. He was an avid fan of West Virginia University Mountaineers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Martin enjoyed lifting weights at the gym, and spending time with his family.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 33 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Sargent; two sons, Justin Sargent and wife Miranda of Beckley, and Cory Sargent and wife Briana of Crab Orchard; three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Olive and Blake; a sister Susan Miller and husband Jamie of Rhodell; mother-in-law Judy Smith of Crab Orchard; two nieces, Sara Roles of Cool Ridge, and Olivia Owens of Florida; a nephew Daniel Heath of Staunton, Virginia; a sister-in-law Becky Heath of Crab Orchard; an aunt Ivy Dawson of Crab Orchard; one great niece, several great nephews, cousins and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, WV to Celebrate the Life of Martin Eugene Sargent Jr. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Steve Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will Justin and Cory Sargent, Daniel Heath, Jamie Miller, Alan Huybert, and Alan Austin.
