Mary Lee Bobby

Mary Lee Turner was born February 5, 1928, in Atalissa, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard Anthony and Mary Lettie Pampel Turner. Her father was a minister and evangelist, the son of English immigrants who came to America in 1871 to take advantage of the Homestead Act. Mary's paternal grandfather authored a book, Pioneers of the West.

Mary Lee received a B.A. degree from Wheaton College in 1949. She studied further at the University of Lisbon, Portugal, and was awarded an M.Ed. degree from the University of Maryland in 1977. She was married in Washington, D.C., August 13, 1949, to Albert Edward Bobby.

The couple served as missionaries under The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) in Lisbon, Portugal. Following their return to the States, Mary Lee taught elementary school and directed a day care center/nursery school. Mary Lee and Al were quite the international couple spending many of their 49 years together traveling the globe both for ministry and leisure. Mary Lee continued traveling and serving on mission trips late into her life.

She fervently loved her Lord Jesus with all her heart, soul, and strength. Mary Lee diligently served as a prayer warrior, leader in Bible Study, Sunday school teacher, and evangelist in whatever community the Lord led her. She loved studying and memorizing God's Word and had a true passion for sharing Christ's love with others. Mary Lee joyfully worshiped in song both through choir and as a talented pianist. Those that knew her, knew she loved Jesus.

Mary Lee Bobby was preceded in death by her husband Albert Bobby.

She is survived by her 3 children, Patricia Joanne (Kenneth Zint), Janet Lee (Tom Pack), and Jonathan Dwight (Kimberly); grandchildren Shane (Rachael) Pack, Justin (Emilee) Pack, Jessalyn (Paul) Rochefort, Evan (Callie) Pack, Megan (Eric) Bennett, Mandy (Nolan) Gainey, Michelle (Stephen) Martin, Raquel Bobby, Leah (Quinn) Jones; and 9 precious great-grandchildren (and one on the way). She was also deeply loved by a host of extended family and many brothers and sisters in Christ all over the world.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or Gideons International.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 11 AM at Lexington Baptist Church, Lexington, SC. Friends may visit with the family from 10 AM until service time. Burial service will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 1:45 PM at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD. Family and friends will meet at Beall Funeral Home, Bowie, MD at 1 PM and travel to the cemetery.
