Mary Sue Coley

One of God’s precious daughters, Mary Sue Coley, has passed from this life into the loving arms of Jesus her Savior.

Mary Sue was born in Lester, WV, to Henry Aden McKinney and Eliza J. McKinney. She was their only girl and was raised with her four brothers—Bill, Erland, Kevin, and Keith.

At a young age, she accepted Jesus as her Savior at Lester Baptist Church and was discipled by the ladies of the church. One of her favorite hymns was “How Great Thou Art.” After graduation from Trap Hill High School, she went to Piedmont Bible College located in Winston-Salem, NC.

She first met her husband Patrick (Pat) at Appalachian Bible College when she wrote him a parking ticket, which he tried to talk her out of unsuccessfully. They were married in December of 1983. At her passing, they had been married for 42 years. They had two sons, Jonathan and Caleb.

Mary Sue loved children, and they loved her. She was a kindergarten teacher for twenty years at Greater Beckley Christian School, where she taught numerous children to read and shared Jesus with them. She loved seeing her students grow and succeed in life. Later in her career, she taught at Mount Tabor Christian School.

Along with teaching professionally, she taught children at her church, Faith Baptist in Prosperity, WV, where she served faithfully for over forty years. She served in many children’s ministries - AWANA, Sunday School, children’s church, and VBS. She was also involved in missions and would join with the children in wearing costumes for the Parade of Nations at the mission conferences.

Mary Sue was a loving wife and mother. She was a loyal friend, always willing to lend a hand to whoever needed her help. She lived a life rooted in faith, family, loyalty, kindness, and love. She will be missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Erland, and her stillborn son Caleb, whom she frequently mentioned that she was looking forward to one day seeing again.

 A memorial to celebrate her life was held at 11 am on Saturday, July 25, at Faith Baptist in Prosperity, WV.
