Mary "Maxine" Lilly-Gillenwater

Mary "Maxine" Lilly-Gillenwater, age 81, of Ghent, WV passed away to be with the Lord on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 6:30 PM after a short illness at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV.

Born on November 28, 1942 at Ghent, she was the daughter of Orlie Landon Lilly and Wylma Bowling Lilly.

Maxine was a homemaker, and a member of Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church. She enjoyed watching western movies, birdwatching and feeding them, and taking care of the less fortunate. She served as a volunteer at the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Mack Gillenwater;  a brother Orlie Lilly, and an infant brother Norris Golf Lilly. A special friend, Ernie Devers.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her brother, Josiah "J.C." Lilly  and wife Jerri of Ghent, and a sister Nell Jean Longo of Lake Charles, LA.;  a sister-in-law Leona and husband Rev. Paul Holstein of Ghent. Several nieces and nephews, and a special thank you to nephew Michael Sanna for the help and care given over the years.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Tuesday, June  25, 2024 at 3PM with Rev. Paul Holstein officiating. Burial will follow at the Tom Lilly Cemetery at Ghent, WV.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
