Melissa Lynn Lester

Melissa Lynn Lester, age 75, of Marshall Circle, Shady Spring died Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV following a short illness.

Born at home in Shady Spring on December 7, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Jack Griffith and Odetta Phillips Griffith.

She was preceded in death by brothers Chester, Carl, Thomas, James and Samuel Griffith as well as sisters Laura Mallam and Linda Cooper.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Lester of Shady Spring, her daughter, Jennifer Matherly (Gary "Tony") of Glen Morgan, her son, J.D. Lester (Andrea) of Midlothian VA; her brother Armond Joseph Griffith (Ivette) of Palm Bay, Florida and her sister Janice Lee of Lawrenceville, Georgia; four grandchildren, Garret Matherly, Emma Matherly, Madison Lester, and Isaac Lester.

Melissa was living in retirement and loved her family dearly. She was a caring and devoted wife, loving and supportive mother, a proud grandmother (Granny) and was looking forward to the birth of her first great granddaughter in February.

Services will be Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Rose and Quesenberry, Shady Spring at 1:00 pm with Jerry Woodyard as the speaker. Visitation for friends of the family will begin at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be Garrett Matherly, Isaac Lester, Homer Lester, James Smith, Dante Billeter, and Jack McNiff.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Bowers Hospice House, Hospice of Southern WV.
