After 82 years of a busy, fulfilling life, Mel Ehrlich died peacefully surrounded by his family on June 2, 2024. He was a resident in independent living at Brookdale Trillium Crossing in Columbus, Ohio.
Melvin Allen was born February 22, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Julius and Anna (Prozialeck) Ehrlich.
He is survived by the family he loved: his wife, Wilma "Willie"; two sons, Jason and Brian (Amy); a daughter, Catherine (Kerry Ormond); two grandchildren, Anna Ehrlich and Mitchell Ormond; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Mary; a sister-in-law, Rose Underwood; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bill, and a sister, Cara Robinson.
A man with a number of interests, he trained as an engineer at the esteemed Case Institute of Technology and thoroughly enjoyed his career with RCA in Circleville, which involved extensive travel to European countries. His commitment to his community was solid, serving in leadership roles with boards such as youth soccer, the Red Cross, PICCA, and the YMCA in Circleville, as well as contributing to the park board and senior citizen board after his move to Dublin.
Personal interests included discovering wine lore, international foods and camping with his family throughout the USA. He with his wife Willie also collected memories with leisure travel in Europe and on several cruises.
In recent years, Mel's enthusiasm for wine sparked the formation of dinner wine clubs with his neighbors. Mel's legacy will be celebrated with a toast at the next meetings of the three wine clubs he founded.
Burial will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 11 AM at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, WV.
