Obituary

Michael Lee Herron, 56, of Dorothy, West Virginia, passed away on September 22, 2026.

Michael was born on February 24, 1970, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Barry and Barbara Anne Herron. He grew up in Dorothy, West Virginia, where he spent his boyhood roaming the mountains that would always feel like home. He attended Clear Fork High School and graduated in 1988.

Answering the call to serve his country, Michael joined the United States Army and served during Operation Desert Storm, where he was awarded two Bronze Stars. He carried himself with the quiet courage of a soldier, and he was proud of the men he served beside. His brother, Steve Herron, also served his country during Operation Desert Storm. Steve preceded Michael in death in August 2022.

After his service, Michael made his home in North Carolina, where he built a long and steady career with Bridgestone/Firestone before retiring in 2021.

On November 12, 2022, Mike married the love of his life, Debbie Meadows. Together they dreamed of coming home, and in 2025 that dream came true when they moved back to Dorothy, to his grandparents' homeplace. Those who knew Mike knew he was never happier than when he was in the West Virginia mountains, or simply outside, breathing the fresh air with his faithful German Shepherd, Rowdy, close by his side.

Like so many who served, Michael carried unseen wounds from his time in Desert Storm. He fought those battles bravely for many years, and his family hopes that his story reminds every veteran carrying the same weight that they are not alone and that help is always there.

Michael leaves behind his loving wife, Debbie Herron; his parents, Barry and Anne Herron; his beloved brother, Wade Herron; his stepchildren, Jordan Harthman, Logan Harthman, and Samantha Null; seven precious grandchildren who were the light of his life; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved companion, Rowdy.

He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his service to his country, and the deep love he had for his family. The mountains he loved will feel a little quieter without him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Ewing Creek Church, 129 Calvery Lane, Clear Creek, WV 25044. Family visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., and friends are welcome from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Ewing Creek Church on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Loretta Taylor officiating. A committal service will follow directly at Pineview Cemetery in Orgas, West Virginia.
