Nancy Dent

Nancy (Porter) Dent, age 89, of Cool Ridge, WV passed away on May 17, 2025 due to a long illness.

She was the first baby born in Raleigh County on January 1, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Troy and Minnie Porter.

Nancy, as she was known by family and friends, was raised in Raleigh County, and was a graduate of Stoco High School and Beckley College. Nancy was a proud Veteran, having served four years in the US Navy, where she made Wave of the Month two times, and was trained in physical therapy.

She worked as a physical therapist assistant for forty-two years, last working in the Beckley area.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by seven siblings.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her son, Harold Dent Jr. of Cool Ridge; three sisters, Mary Underwood and Donna Cochran, both of Point Pleasant, WV, and Patty Harstad of Alameda, California. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Special thanks go to her niece, Sharon Harmon, whom she loved and adored.

Graveside rites and burial will be held at the Coal City Community Cemetery at Coal City, WV on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Keith Manning officiating. Friends may visit with the family thirty minutes prior to the services on Wednesday at the cemetery. Military Graveside rites will be provided by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
