Neil Madison Byrge, Sr.

Neil Madison Byrge Sr., age 79, of Crab Orchard, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at his home.

Born on September 23, 1945 in Shady Spring, he was the son of the late William Byrge and Nellie Sizemore Byrge.

Mr. Byrge was a retired coal mine foreman, and served as a minister at various nursing homes for over 35 years.

He loved woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family. He always enjoyed having a good meal with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, James and Bill Byrge, Betty Brown, Miriam Crouse and Helen Dunkinson.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his  wife of nearly 57 years, Rita Mason Byrge; his children, Shannon Jaggie and husband Lionel of Belews Creek, NC, Kristi Mattox and fiancé, Todd Goforth of Thomasville, NC, Neil M. Byrge II of Crab Orchard, Jeremiah Byrge and wife, Ashley of Shady Spring, and Kimberly Johns  and husband Boomer of Coal City; siblings Shirley Robinson Miller of Beckley, Kay Akers of Maryland, Nancy Ibrihim of Tampa, Florida, and Wilma Byrge of Florida. Fifteen grandchildren, and one great grandson also  survive.

A visitation will be held at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel, on Sunday, July 20, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Services will be held at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel on Monday July 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM with family members delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow  at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
