Nelson Reed Epperley, Sr.

Nelson Reed Epperley, Sr., lovingly known as Reed, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Reed was born and raised in Beckley, West Virginia, where he built a life grounded in hard work, family, and community.  In his later years, he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, to be closer to his family, who meant everything to him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lindy, and his children: Libby (Randy) Gonyea, Lori (Andy) Culicerto, Chip (Christine) Epperley, and Lindsey (Nick) Wade. He was a proud and loving grandfather to eight grandchildren, Charlie, Jack, Caroline, Anne, Whitney, Stella, Calvin, and Clark, who brought him endless joy.  Also surviving are his brothers Gary, Greg and James "Rusty."

He was preceded in death parents Marjorie and Albert Epperley.

Reed dedicated much of his career to the automotive industry, helping run Charlie Earehart Dodge & Jeep in his earlier years and later working with Lewis Nissan until his retirement. He was a master electrician and a man of many talents, someone who could build or fix just about anything.

He had a deep love for golf, cars and a good Mountaineer tailgate.  Reed also gave his time generously as a baseball and softball coach, sharing his knowledge and encouragement with young athletes.

Above all, Reed cherished his family. When his grandchildren were born, he and Lindy made it their mission to be present, attending countless baseball, softball, soccer, and rowing events, always cheering from the sidelines.

Reed will be remembered for his steady presence, his strong work ethic, his many skills, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he adored.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Amos E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, WV on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 from 10AM until 12PM.
