Pastor Cleve Allen

Pastor Cleve Allen went home to be  with the Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the age of 93.

Born in  Raleigh, West Virginia on October 3, 1930, Cleve was the son of the late Walter Irwin Allen and Grace Truman Shirkey Allen. After returning home from serving in the US Navy, Cleve met and married the love of his life Mattie Ella Stump in 1951. During the fifty-six years of marriage Cleve and Mattie raised four children.

Cleve worked as a truck driver for Smith's Transfer, but his most favorite place to be was in the church sharing the word of God.  He pastored the West Raleigh Baptist Church for more than 40 years.

Cleve also loved long days floating down the river fishing with his son David and  being in the woods with his grandsons hunting.

Another love was gardening.  He raised  the most beautiful gardens that he shared with many people. Cleve's faith in the Lord was an inspiration to everyone he met.  So much that he was also known as Paw Paw Amen.  Cleve was  the most kind, loving, generous and humble man anyone would ever meet.

In addition to his parents, Cleve was preceded in death by his wife Mattie Ella Stump Allen; three children, Sally Allen Smith, Kelly Allen and  Regina Allen; one grandchild Kelly Ray Allen;  two sisters and six brothers.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son David Allen and wife Linda Allen of Flat Top; Seven grandchildren, Shannon and Brenda Allen of Beaver, WV, Brad and Chrystal Allen of Shady Spring, WV, Dena and Jeff Gallman of Thomasville, NC, Chad and Sarah Allen of Farmer, NC, Bobby Mills of Beckley, WV, Chris Mills of Beckley, WV, and Eric Mills of Beckley, WV; eight great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 2 PM with Preacher Frank McQuillen officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 9 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Central Missionary Clearinghouse, P.O. Box 219228, Houston, TX 77218-9228 or to Worldwide New Testament Baptist Missions, P.O. Box 725, Kings Mountain, NC 28086-0725.
