Paul Adrian Haynes

Paul Adrian Haynes passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, after a long illness at the Bowers Hospice House.

Paul was born March 14, 1942, in Gary, West Virginia, to Adrian and Anna Klinchok Haynes.

He was a confirmed and baptized at the Gary Catholic Church and a graduate from Gary High School. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army. Quickly after joining, he was transferred to Vietnam with the 1st Brigade 101st Airborne Division. While there, he received recognition for outstanding performance as a combat infantryman, and removed wounded from exposed areas bringing them to safety, for this he received the Army Commendation Medal for heroism. He also received a Bronze Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces.

Paul returned home on December 7, 1968, to marry Mary Berentes in Thorpe United Methodist Church. Then, he returned to active duty on the Korean DMZ. In 1970, he received an honorable discharge from the army.

He decided to take a job with US Steel in Gary, WV. After five years, a decision was made to move to Beckley, WV. At that time, he began working with Beckley Coal Company. Upon the closing of Beckley Coal, he became an owner operator for PA Haynes Trucking. Later he returned to the mining industry and retired from Massey Energy in 2007.

Besides his wife, Mary, of 56 years, he is survived by his daughter, Mary Theresa Haynes, Fairmont, WV. Also, he is survived by his Aunt Helen Brede, Lawrenceburg, IN; four sisters, Mary Margaret Brillhart, Roanoke, Va; Adrianna Stevenson (Sonny), Gary, WV; Susan Holston (Dallas), Suffolk, Va, and Helena Andrigo (Mike), Morgantown, WV, and two brothers, Mike Haynes (Debi), Beckley, WV and Adrian Howard "Butch" Haynes, Arlington, Va. Besides his parents, two brother preceded him in death, John Howard Haynes and his youngest sibling, Marcus Haynes.

Paul requested that his body be cremated. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be done on Saturday, March 15th at Rose Quesenberry Funeral Home. Friends may call between 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Services will start at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bowers Hospice House.
