Phyllis Jean Atkinson

Phyllis Jean Atkinson, age 89, of Beaver, WV passed away at the Greystone Inn in Beaver, WV on Friday, October 11, 2024.

Born on September 4, 1935 at Yolyn, WV in Logan County, she was  the daughter of the late George Wiley and Myrtle Mullens Wiley.

Mrs. Atkinson was a homemaker, and a member of  Beckley Regular Baptist Church for many years. She served on the prayer committee and bereavement committee at the church for a number of years. Mrs. Atkinson was a caregiver for many family members and enjoyed music.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold Atkinson Sr.; by brothers, Herbert, Robert, Elmer, George Jr, and Ralph Wiley; by sisters, Ruth Ward, Faye Berry, Avonna Simmons, Helen  Wening, and Juanita VanSlyke.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include children, Harold "Hal" Atkinson and wife Jane of Beckley, Paul Atkinson and wife Liz of King George, VA, and Melinda Martin and husband Ed of Fletcher, NC. A brother Kenneth Wiley of Michigan. Five grandchildren, Emily Atkinson, Jacob Atkinson, Katrina Dobroski and husband  Mike, Paul  Gregory Atkinson II and wife Angela, and Harold Martin III; great grandchildren, Griff Armentrout, Brennen Atkinson, Finn Atkinson, Ruby Atkinson, Hailey Martin and Brooklyn Martin. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family extends special thanks to Greystone Inn, aides and physical therapy staff for  the care  given to Mrs. Atkinson, and  for making her life  more comfortable and enjoyable.

Funeral services will  be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, WV on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 2 PM with Pastor Ken Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity,  WV. Friends may visit with the family from 1 PM  until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
