Phyllis Harrah, age 83, of Kernersville, NC, formerly of Backus Mountain, WV, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at her home.
She was born on June 12, 1942 at Glen Rogers, and was the daughter of the late Willie Gunnoe and Garland Bailey.
Mrs. Harrah was a former healthcare aide, and had attended Chestnut Knob Baptist Church for many years. She loved to sing, and sang with her good friends Brenda and Michael Hunt, traveling to sing at many churches in the area. Mrs. Harrah loved to read her Bible and do word search puzzles. She had a very giving heart, and always tried to help anyone in need. Mom loved the Christmas Holiday and had decorated her entire house four weeks prior to her illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bud Harrah; son Toby Harrah; daughter-in-law Donna Harrah, and grandson Jaime Harrah. Mrs. Harrah was also preceded in death by sisters, Ramona Tolliver, Mary Lucas, and Shirley Woody; by brothers Nelson Bailey, and Garland Bailey Jr; brothers-in-law, Sonny Harrah and Kermit Harrah.
Those survivors let to cherish her memory include her children, Denise Lambert of Grandview, Kim Gwinn and husband Greg of Lanark, and Wayne Harrah of Kernersville, NC. Mom had ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; a brother Adalee Bailey of Roanoke, VA. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory, best friend Martha Berry of Backus Mountain, WV.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Amos E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley, WV on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at 3:00 PM, with Rev. Lynn Halstead officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 PM until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
According to her personal wishes, cremation will follow.
