Randall Douglas Nierman

Randall Douglas Nierman, age 88, of Crab Orchard, WV, passed away at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV, on Thursday, February 6, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born June 16, 1936, in Premier, WV, he was the son of Tamplin and Lucille Rose Nierman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sylvia Jane Nierman, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and devotion.

Randall was a retired pressman for Beckley Newspapers, a dedicated worker who took pride in his craft. He was a man of deep faith, a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church, and someone who lived out the values of kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for those he loved. He never met a stranger, and whether you were family or a passing acquaintance, he greeted you with warmth, sincerity, and a willingness to help.

His heart belonged to his family, and he showed up—always. Whether it was cheering in the stands through rain, wind, or cold for his grandchildren's track meets and band performances or simply being present for every family event, he was a constant, steadfast source of love and encouragement.

Randall had a way of making every day routines something special. His daily ritualistic commutes and lunches at Dairy Queen became more than just a habit; they became part of his identity. The staff and regulars knew him so well that he was even made an honorary DQ employee, complete with his own Dairy Queen hat—a fitting tribute to a man who made every space he occupied feel like home.

One of the rare moments he experienced the ocean was during a family trip to Virginia Beach. He embraced the waves with childlike excitement, boogie boarding in the ocean surf—until the moment he scooped up a jellyfish on his board, sending him leaping backward in surprise. It was a memory that would be told and retold, a perfect encapsulation of his quiet adventurous spirit and the simple joy he found in life.

Randall was happiest outdoors, whether hunting in his younger years, tending to his garden, or simply soaking in the beauty of the world around him. He was a man of quiet strength, deep love, and immeasurable kindness.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, sons; Randall Kevin Nierman and wife Becky of Shady Spring, Kenneth Dean Nierman and his life partner; Crystal Pittman Cox of Crab Orchard, and daughter; Stephanie Ann Cook of Crab Orchard.

His legacy lives on in his grandchildren, Kandy Lilly, Christa and husband Jason Parrish, Spencer McQuade and wife Sarah, Allison Cook, Evan Cook, and Zachary Cook; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings, Marie Worthington, Rowland Nierman, Charles Nierman, and Richard Nierman, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever hold his memory close.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, WV, on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM with Pastor, David Bush officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Prosperity, WV. Randall will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife; Sylvia, reuniting them in eternal peace. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Spencer McQuade, Evan Cook, Zachary Cook, Tyler Miller, Shane Smith, and Nathan Hart.

Randall Nierman was one of the great ones—a man who lived with kindness, loved unconditionally, and never missed a chance to be there for the people he cherished. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering presence. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the stories, traditions, and hearts of all who knew him.
