Roger Carson Shrewsbury

Roger Carson Shrewsbury, age 83, of Cool Ridge, WV passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 29, 1943 at Barkers Ridge, WV. Roger cherished his roots and the many memories he made there. He later made his home at Cool Ridge, where he raised his family, built lasting friendships, and left a legacy of hard work, faith, and devotion to those he loved.

Roger began his career in the shipyards of Newport News, VA, before returning to southern West Virginia. He retired as a foreman from Phillips Machine Service, earning the respect of colleagues through his strong work ethic, leadership, and dedication.

A faithful Christian, Roger attended Victory Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling and was a longtime member of a league at Leisure Lanes in Beckley, where he formed many lasting friendships. He also loved traveling to Pigeon Forge, TN, especially when it included a visit to his favorite restaurant, Huck Finn's Catfish. Whether attending family reunions, sharing stories with friends, spending time with loved ones, or working in the yard, Roger found joy in life's simple pleasures.

Roger was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delores Shrewsbury; his parents, Oscar and Rivanna Shrewsbury; his son, Greg Shrewsbury; siblings, Dewey, Delmar, Truman, Bradley, Odell, Steven and Janet McKinney.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Kevin Shrewsbury and Mike Shrewsbury, who lovingly cared for him; grandsons, Ryan Shrewsbury and Derick Shrewsbury, of whom he was very proud; siblings, Tessie Cook, Sidney (Beverly), Larry (Kathy), Judith (Calvin), Oscar and Reta (Joe); his longtime companion, Sue Wills, with whom he shared many years of love and friendship; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 2 PM at the Amos E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, WV. Burial will follow at George Shrewsbury Cemetery, Barkers Ridge, WV. Family visitation will begin at 11 AM, with friends welcome to join from 12 PM until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Roger's life began on Barkers Ridge and there he will be laid to rest among generations of family.
