Roy "Virgil" Manning aka "Hun", 87, of MacArthur passed peacefully in his home on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
He will most lovingly be remembered as "Daddy". He was relentless in providing for his large family. Daddy was stern when he needed to be (and trust us, we gave him plenty of opportunity!). He instilled in each of his kids a strong work ethic of which he was very proud.
Known as "Virgil" or "Hun" in the Manning Family, he was always available to help his brothers, sisters, and their families. No need was too great. His cherished memories included the many family reunions and times sitting around with his siblings and just being together.
An Army Veteran, he was very grateful for his time in the military, believing it was one of the best decisions he ever made.
Roy Virgil is survived by: three sons, Tom (Joetta), Troy (Toni), and Tim (Sherri) and two daughters, Tammy and Trina (Jay) Grandchildren, Joey Smith (Jennifer), Joey Brown, Roy "Bubba", Lawrie (Jyrad), Tiffany, Hannah (Taylor), Jacob (Jessica), Luke (Taylor), Leah (Hunter), Shara (Cole), and Noah. Great-grandchildren: Zac, Mason, Tyleek, Chloe, Zoey, and Rowan. His companion of 14 years, Sandra Smale, brother, Ross Manning. Brother-in-law Jim Wood and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Delma; one grandson Matt, parents Howard and Nancy Manning, 12 brothers and sisters, and many other family members and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 1 PM at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with his funeral immediately following at 2 PM. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV.
Pallbearers will be Tom Manning (son), Tim Manning (son), Joey Brown (grandson), Joey Smith (grandson), Roy Manning (grandson), Luke Manning (grandson), Zac Smith (great grandson) and Noah Walker (grandson).
His children would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice, especially for his nurses who treated Daddy with true respect and helped us to make his last few months more comfortable. Most importantly, Hospice allowed Daddy to fulfill his final wish which was to die at home.
In lieu of flowers, his children suggest a donation to Hospice in his memory.
