Roy Lee Meadows

On Thursday May 9, 2024, Roy Lee Meadows peacefully went to be with the Lord. He proudly served the Lord and was a faithful and devoted member of the Ghent Church of God.  He was a loving husband, father, and a friend to all.

Roy could be known by many identities, being a coal miner, mechanic, carpenter, etc. He was truly a jack-of-all trades and was everyone's go to handyman. He was a selfless soul and would take any favors for anyone, no matter what. Roy never met a stranger that he did not like, nor didn't like him; he carried an abundance of love in his heart for all people. Easily, he was known for his smile that could constantly brighten anyone's mood, and his "clowny" sense of humor that could fill any room with laughter. He showed a pure gentleness toward children and animals as they made his heart soar.

Roy was nothing short of being a hard worker his entire lifetime, serving 30 tireless years underground as a roof bolter for Mingo Logan Coal Company. He was a devoted family man who would never miss a chance to show up for all whom he loved.  He gave the Lord praise for all his days on earth, as a warrior of Christ, would ensure that he always spread the Gospel to others. He may have passed on, but no  one could ever forget the amazing man that was… Roy Lee Meadows.

Roy was born on March 24, 1947 at Daniels, and was the son of the late James Floyd Meador and Essie Lee Radford Meador.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 40 years, Theresa Hornsby Meadows; his  children, Kimberly Devall and husband Doug of Sumter, SC, Gregory Meadows and wife Cindy of Brunswick, OH, Kevin Meadows of Grand Junction, CO, Jessica Meadows of Shady Spring, and Skylar Meadows of Shady Spring, WV. Three sisters, Florence Redden of Va,  Hazel Mudd of Maryland, and Ina Swartz and husband Skip of Maryland; two brothers  Floyd McRae Meadows and wife Jewel of Sumter, SC and Glen Meadows and wife Rosa of Beaver, WV. Five grandchildren, Sheldon Devall, Derek Devall and wife Ashley, Dru Devall, Jackie Meadows and Elizabeth Meadows; three great grandchildren, Dakota Devall, Dash Devall, and Luna Devall;  several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by eight sisters: infant sisters, Mary Frances and Betty Lou Meador, Geneva "Nemo" Buckland, Rose Clark, Josie Stump, Prema Rich, Odessa Meador, and Ruby Meadows; a brother Ricky Meador.

A memorial service to Celebrate the life of Roy Lee Meadows will be held at the Ghent Church of God, Center Street, Ghent, WV on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 6 PM with Pastor Garrett officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Sunday at the church.
