Russell Perkins, 77, of Crab Orchard passed away on April 26, 2024 after a brief illness.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, and his best friend, George James.
He is survived by wife Shirley, son Stephen (Amanda), son Brian (Jessica), daughter Jennifer, grandchildren Abigail, Ethan, and Flora and Goddaughter, Keri Blythe.
Russell was born to Russell "Shorty" and Emma Perkins. He grew up in Sprague and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1964. Afterwards he served in the United States Navy on the USS Guardfish submarine.
He shared over 50 years of marriage with Shirley Ann Payne Perkins.
Russell spent much of his career working for Cabot Oil and Gas. He had a love for dirt track and Nascar racing. He enjoyed riding four wheelers, oftentimes, going for an entire day in different parts of the state. His passion during his retirement was the farm and the 1929 Model Ford A. Russell worked to restore a post- Civil War era hand-hewn log cabin and other buildings at the farm. He was skilled in several trades including plumbing, electrical, masonry, and carpentry. He was always fixing or building something in his garage or workshop at the farm. He has an interest in submarines and the local history of Raleigh and Summers County.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 1 PM with Rev. Dewey Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at the Perkins Family Cemetery on Broomstraw Ridge Road in Summers County. Friends may visit with the family from 11 AM until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
