Born in Beckley, Ruth Ann Kessler passed from this life surrounded by love, just days shy of her seventy-seventh birthday.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Gene Gregory Kessler; by her beloved mother, Lillie Burns; stepfather, Dave Burns and by her aunt and built-in best friend, Judy Basham.
Ruth Ann leaves behind her daughters, Julee Ann Goodman and Kerry Lyn Knapp, and her beloved grandchildren, Emma Keppe, Adyn Keppe, Gregory Poe, and Olivia Goodman—each one a living testament to her pride, her fierce love, and her unwavering encouragement to fulfill their dreams. She is also survived by her brothers, Charles Burns (Judy) and David Burns (Dreama), and her sister, Crista Feedback (Tracy), all of whom she was tremendously proud of.
For more than thirty years, Ruth faithfully served as secretary of the Flat Top Lake Association, where her dedication and steady presence helped bind a community together. She was also the owner and operator of Sunshine Station Antique and Consignment Shop in Flat Top—a place that reflected her warmth, curiosity, and welcoming spirit. Ruth had a love for thrift stores, yard sales, history, reading and anything vintage. She delighted in the hunt for hidden treasures, finding beauty and meaning in forgotten things, and patiently researching their history—giving each piece a story, and often, a new life.
Ruth Ann was a woman of quiet strength and generous heart. She loved without condition, nurtured without hesitation, and left behind a legacy not measured in possessions, but in the care she gave, the stories she preserved, and the lives she touched. Ruth will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In accordance with her wishes, a celebration of her life will be conducted later in the spring.
