Ruth Irene Nicklas Lacek, 93, of Raleigh, WV died peacefully at her home surrounded by family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Frank, two brothers, Jimmy and Jackie Nicklas, and a son, William David.
Ruth is survived by six children: Patricia Cantley of Beckley, Frankie Paul and his wife Ronda of Beaver, Jane Lacek McQuillen and husband James of Gainesville, GA, Linda Lacek Honosky of Beaver, James Robert and his wife Karen of New Market, VA, and Steven and his wife Jo Lynn of Beckley. She is also survived by her brother Robert Nicklas and his wife Jan. Ruth was grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth showed her love through her cooking and baking. She was happiest when she was cooking for the many friends that frequently visited our home. She loved music, especially the big band sounds of Lawrence Welk. Ruth was an active member of Creative Homemakers through WVU Extension, she was a certified Master Food Preserver. She enjoyed cake decorating, and she baked and decorated beautiful cakes for many weddings. Ruth was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Beckley for over 70 years.
The family would like to thank, Ashley, her Palliative Care nurse, and Denise, Gwen, Jeanette, and Sue, her care givers. The family wishes to show its appreciation for the excellent care she received by asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
A Christian Burial Service will be held at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 2 PM with Rev. Father Leonard Smith officiating. A Rite of Committal will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley, WV. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
