Sandra Kay
Murray
Oct 3, 1956 — Sep 1, 2026
Sandra Kay Murray, known and loved by so many simply as Kay, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Born Sandra Kay Watkins on October 3, 1956, in Oak Hill, West Virginia, Kay was the youngest—and the littlest—of her siblings, but she certainly made up for her size with plenty of spunk. From an early age, she had a big personality, a free spirit, and a spark all her own. She carried that same spunk throughout her life, bringing warmth, laughter, and a little adventure into the lives of everyone around her.
Kay never met a stranger. With her generous heart, naturally motherly spirit, and free-spirited hippie soul, she made people feel welcome, cared for, and part of the family. Whether you were related by blood or became family along the way, there was a place for you in Kay’s heart.
A devoted wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Kay never lost her youthful spark. She loved music, dancing, and being surrounded by people she loved. Her energy and larger-than-life personality could fill a room, and her laughter had a way of drawing everyone in.
Kay was also a hard worker who always had a job and never shied away from putting in the effort. Working was a constant throughout her life, and her strong work ethic was as much a part of her as her warmth and playful spirit.
Above all, Kay treasured her family. She was proud of her children and grandchildren and loved sharing their accomplishments, celebrating their milestones, and telling anyone who would listen what made them special. Even the everyday details of their lives brought her joy. Being loved by Kay meant having someone who was always proud to call you hers.
Kay shared 42 years of marriage with her loving and adoring husband, Richard Murray. Their life together held decades of memories, laughter, and love that he will carry with him always.
In addition to Richard, Kay is survived by her five children: Derrick Murray and his wife, Anita; Scott and his wife, Lisa; Todd; Summer Reynolds and her husband, David; and Stephanie Bragg and her husband, Eric. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Richard and wife, Jolena, Bryan, Skyler, Macen, Kalob, Nevaeh, Mohammad, Zayed, Kaitlyn, Alyssa Kay, Aiden, Avery, and Aaliyah; as well as her beloved great-grandchildren Liam, Falcon, Levi, Stella and Blake. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Watkins and his wife, Mindy; her nieces and nephews: Sandra Bolen; Bryan Garringer and his wife Sarah; Karen Santos; Renae Allison; and Jason Watkins; and her best gal pals and travel buddies, Sharon, Big Steph, and Mick. She leaves behind many extended family members, dear friends, and others whose lives were touched by her love.
Kay was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita; her father, Robert; her sister, Brenda; and her brother, David.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at the Mad Hatter Club. All who knew and loved Kay are welcome to gather, share stories, and honor her memory.
Later that evening close friends and family are invited to the home her grandparents built for a more intimate celebration of her life.
Kay’s time here ended far too suddenly, but the love she gave remains—in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless people she made feel at home. She will be remembered with laughter, missed beyond words, and loved always.
