Steveson Eddie Sawyers

Steveson (Steve) Eddie Sawyers of Lester made his final journey home to be with his Lord Savior on December 5, 2024 with his sister Joyce by his bedside. He fought a timely battle with illness on his journey to meet his loved ones Joseph and Geneva Redestine (mother and father), Sam (brother) Sawyers, Ernie (brother Red) Sawyers, and Dwarfus Permelia (brother-in-law).

He leaves behind his wife, Mary Sawyers and his three daughters and their families; a daughter, Dreama (Eric) Fritz of Fayetteville WV, their son, Steven (Coty) Sawyers, great grandchildren, Stella, Bowen and Madilyn Bodkin, great grandson Isaiah Sawyer Lively; a daughter, Christi (Rick) Shiflett of Denton TX, their daughters, Delanie and Preslie;  and the youngest of his daughters, Kimberly (Terry) McManaway of Fayetteville WV and their children Chloe and Blaine. A brother,  Elroy Sawyers, two sisters, Sandra Kay Cochran, Joyce Permelia and several nieces and nephews also survive.

On his journey of life he was able to make a large variety of friends and some acquaintances until his later days treating him as family for instance his neighbors and caregivers Andy and Tanoiya (Big T as he called her) Swain, with their love of the Lord that helped him back to his roots to put faith back in the Lord. His baby sister Joyce (that he called the family's Christmas present) was there to help him in his journey of faith and his day to day with his caregivers in those last months by his side.

Steve spent most of his younger days core drilling for others until he started his last adventure as owner and operator of SS Drilling along with working as a mechanic for Joe's Garage. During those days he liked to hunt, sometimes taking a daughter, spending time with his girls as they grew up, and when not with them spending most of his time hanging out with his brother Sam. He loved a good joke, especially things that were made to make you laugh like his silly saying hats or just the occasional odd thing that a person wouldn't normally think of. He loved being able to help family and friends whenever he could. However he wasn't known for his love of technology when it came to televisions and things of that nature but he loved new kitchen gadgets that would come out, some he would never use but always loved the idea of what they could do.

He also loved spending his time outside in his garden with his tomatoes, cucumbers, and squashes. It wasn't anything new to get out of your vehicle at his house and hear his voice coming from the garden patch just to find him sitting on his butt taking care of his plants. Then there were those times that he would sleep on his back porch just to be outside watching his deer that would come see him and eat all his tasty corn that he would buy for them as well as listening to the rain that would fall on the roof.

Family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Rose and Quesenberry to be used for final expenses. We also would like to hear your memories of the time spent with him to have a chance to see him through your eyes so please take the time and let us know. The services will be conducted by Andy Swain with friends and family speaking before he is laid to rest on Backus mountain with his family in the Smith Cemetery. Family will be gathering on December 11, 2024 at Rose and Quesenberry, 1901 S Kanawha St, Beckley, WV 25801 at noon, friends at 1:00, and the services starting at 2:00. As we all know he wasn't the biggest fan of technology he would get a laugh at us using it to share about his life.
