Thelma Mae Browning

All is well…   It is with heavy hearts, but with much gratefulness, for a  long  and good life, the passing of Thelma Mae Browning of Crab Orchard, WV on June 1, 2025 at the home of  her son, Richard of Fairdale, WV,  where she had been living with for the past six years.

Thelma was born to the late Jim T. and Pearl Martin on February 8, 1923 at Slab Fork, WV, where she lived until the age of six; then her mother moved to Maple Meadow, WV, after her dad was killed in a mining accident.

Thelma was a homemaker, a graduate of Trap Hill High School, and was a member of the Primitive Baptist faith since the age of 35.

Thelma and her sister, Audrey moved to Detroit, Michigan after graduating from school, where they did factory work as part of World War II production. She was one of Rosie the Riveters.

After the war, Thelma moved back to WV, and married the love of her life, Charles H. Browning.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Holroyd in 2013, with 67 years  of a wonderful marriage. Also preceding in death are sisters, Audrey and Gladys; brother Howard, and daughter-in-law Donna. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Those left to cherish her memory are  sons, Richard (Jeronna) Browning,  with whom  she made her home, and Samuel Browning. Grandchildren, Robert R. Browning II (Kristen) of Huntersville, NC,  Beth Williams (Dwayne) of Stafford, VA, Brandon (Angel) Browning of Coal City, WV, Melissa Weeks (Derek) of Tolley Town, WV, and Jeremy Crouse of Pineville, WV. She was honored with 14 great grandchildren, Rachel, Layne, Tripp, Jack, Savannah, Maddy, Landon, Chase,  Madison, Bryar, Laci, Austin, Coalman, and  Zane. Two great-great grandchildren, Aspyn and Joseph. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Thelma will be remembered for all  the heartwarming cards, notes and letters she wrote to family members. She worked each day with faith, hope, love, and never a harsh word to anyone.

A special thank you to Parker, Jude, Reese, Sawyer, Gunner and Hudson, for the laughter and smiles they gave grandma.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, WV on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Dean Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. WV.  Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM, the service  time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Robert, Tripp, Jack, Dwayne, Layne, Brandon and Landon
