Thurman Floyd Goins

Thurman Floyd Goins, age 85 of Backus Mountain, WV passed away at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV on Sunday, October 20, 2024 after a long battle with cancer.

Sonny, as he was better known, was a warrior, but this time cancer got the best of him.

He was preceded in death by his  father and mother, Curtis E Goins and Irene Goins; by his brother Billy Joe, and a sister Brenda Sue.

He is survived by two sisters, Martha Berry and Connie Harvey.

Thurman was the husband of Ruth Goins,  who he loved from the age of 18, until he left this world. He was a loving husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather.  Sonny leaves behind three children, Sandy Vandall of North Carolina, Yuvonne and husband Keith Thompson of Beckley, and Rusty  Goins and wife Bethany of Kentucky; grandchildren Chris and wife Dava Vandall, Anthony Vandall, Ben Vandall and wife Paige, Nicole Shivel and husband Robby, Destiny Goins and Curtis E. Goins and wife Kasandra;  great grandchildren, Micah Vandall, Sierra Goins, Chloe Goins, and Brooks Shivel.

Sonny loved his family, his pastor and his church dearly. He enjoyed Christmas, and most of all gardening and hunting.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Chestnut Knob Baptist Church at Layland, WV on Saturday October 26, 2024 at 2 PM with Pastor Floyd Bolen officiating. Burial will follow at the Harrah Cemetery at Backus  Mountain, WV. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on  Saturday at the church. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
