Velma Lee Meadows Lilly, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Main Street Care, Hinton, WV.
Born on May 29, 1935 in Hinton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Solomon Greenlee and Icey Violet Meadows.
In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Phillip A. Lilly, and a granddaughter Brooklyn Nicole Lynam. Also, she was preceded in death by a sister Berlin Marie Sears and brother Solomon Greenlee Meadows Jr.
Mrs. Lilly will be fondly remembered for love of her family and church family, her sharp wit, playing bingo, and taking long rides. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Velma loved animals and often took in strays. One of her beloved grandsons stated that "she was one of the kindest souls I've ever had the privilege of interacting with. Her demeanor and her ability to exist so wonderfully in this world taught me that there aren't a lot like her."
Those surviving left to cherish her memory include three children, Gary Arthur Lilly and his wife Joan of Winfield, WV, Dennis Lee Lilly and wife Terri of Rock, WV, and Brenda Susie Lynam and husband Larry Van Lynam of North Topsail Beach, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Marshall Lee Lilly, Evan Patrick Lilly and significant other Melissa, Stacey Dawn Lilly, Layne Vincent Lynam, and his wife Lauramarie, Wesley Lilly, Kristin Lilly and significant other Nate, and Travis Lilly; great grandchild Shyanne Lilly; and great-great grandchildren, Wrenley Cruickshanks, Cyrus Vance, and Kanen Baxter. Also, surviving are her loyal and loving friends, Sue and Larry Cantley and Lula Bell Fox.
Special thanks to the staff at Main Street Care in Hinton. They provided compassionate, attentive care that make residents and family members feel truly valued and respected. Also, thanks to Hospice of Southern WV for their care and assistance.
Funeral services will be conducted to Honor the life of Velma on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Amos E. Quesenberry Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, 729 Flat Top Road, Shady Spring, WV with Rev. Everett Meadows and Pastor Rodney Allen officiating, with her son Gary Lilly giving a prayer. Burial will follow at the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Saturday, prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Velma's sons, Gary and Dennis Lilly, son-in-law Van Lynam and grandsons Layne Lynam, Wesley Lilly and Travis Lilly.
Vocalist for the service will be Sue Cantley.
"He will wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelation 21:4.
