Obituary

Virginia Lee “Dixie” Salvo of Mount Hope, West Virginia passed away on August 22, 2026, following a brief illness.

Dixie was born May 15,1936, in Cleveland, Ohio and was a 1955 graduate of Charles F. Brush High School in Lyndhurst, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vince Salvo, her son, Todd Jenkins, her parents, Harry and Nancy Krause, her sisters, Margaret Watson and Patricia Reed, and son-in-law, Doug Darrow.

She was the mother of Jeff Jenkins (Cindy) of Concord Township, Ohio and had many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Stepchildren, Ignatius Salvo (Karen) of Newton Falls, Ohio, Palma Hill (Gary) of Eastlake, Ohio, Carmela Hill (Dennis) of Streetsboro, Ohio and Rosanne Darrow of Exton, Pennsylvania. Grandchildren, Kristy Sablack of Vermilion, Ohio, Brian Jenkins and Danny Jenkins (Katie) of Painesville, Ohio, and Dakota Jenkins (Kaylee), of Willoughby, Ohio, Lauren Cohen (Dan) of University Heights, Ohio, Spencer Hill and Jared Hill of Chesterland, Ohio, and Matthew Hill of Eastlake, Ohio. Great Grandchildren, Gibeon Jenkins, Oliver Jenkins, Landon Jenkins, Delaney Jenkins, Dallas Jenkins, and Dahila Jenkins, Joey Cohen, and Sammy Cohen.

She had a conversational nature and could engage in any discussion on any subject. Dixie was always quick to laugh at herself.

Dixie enjoyed sewing, cooking, doll house collecting, and in her later years tended to her porch full of flowers. She was popular, giving candy to letter carriers, lawncare workers, and others. She enjoyed sled dogs and spoke often of her experiences with those dogs.

Dixie was quick to learn skills. Her drawer full of screwdrivers, wrenches, and other tools were always within reach. She never missed the evening news. She adapted to a computer using her two-handed mouse technique. In her later years, she started to learn the basics of football, basketball, and other sports, needing rules and strategy explained only once. Even at age 90, she was a good driver.

She was close to home care workers coming to her home several times a week. She treated them like family and they felt the same.

She spent most of her life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed discussing spiritual topics with people of all backgrounds.

She will be missed by friends and family all over.

No services will be held at this time.
