In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his wife Wanzie Setliff; by brothers Eddie, Norman, Noel, Mike, Keith, Jerry and Paul Setliff; by sisters Reta East and Brenda Gail Setliff.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his children, Sheila Wheeler and husband Shawn of Cool Ridge, and Richard Setliff of Beckley; four grandchildren Zachary Setliff and wife Faith, Presley Bailey, Ashley Wheeler and husband Ryan Jenkins, and Lindsey Wheeler; great grandchildren Dontae and Kayden; two brothers Rev. Orville Setliff and wife Rachel of Cool Ridge, and David Setliff, also of Cool Ridge; five sisters, Mary Cook of Shady Spring, Carol O'Donnell of Cool Ridge, Dorcas Baldwin of Cool Ridge, Rebecca Matics and husband Sam of Shady Spring, and Claire Cavallier of Parma, OH. Many nieces and nephews who will cherish Buddy's memory also survive.
