Ernest Wayne
Polk
Jul 26, 1955 — Sep 19, 2026
Ernest “Wayne” Polk, 71, passed away on September 19, 2026. He was born on July 26, 1955, in Pemberton, West Virginia.
Wayne was a deeply devoted Christian man and a member of Glen Daniel Worship Center. His faith was not simply something he spoke about; it was the foundation of his life. He never hesitated to share the Word of God with anyone he met. Wayne lived to serve the Lord and help others, always willing to lend a hand to those in need.
Wayne worked as a mechanic, a profession that reflected his skill and willingness to help others. Above all, however, he devoted his life to loving and caring for his family.
He loved his family more than life itself. Raising Eydie’s three boys was an honor he cherished, and he loved them unconditionally. He was always there to help, guide, encourage, and support them whenever they needed him.
One of the most special bonds in Wayne’s life was with his granddaughter, Nichole. His love for her ran incredibly deep. Wayne helped raise Nichole, and they shared a bond that words cannot fully describe. He was the one who could calm and control her seizures, and he was a constant source of comfort, protection, and love in her life. Their bond was unbreakable. Although Wayne has gone home to be with Jesus, the love they shared will continue to live in Nichole’s heart forever.
Wayne faced his terminal illness with the same unwavering faith that guided his entire life. When he was told that his illness was terminal, he was not afraid. He knew that God had him, and he trusted completely in the Lord’s plan.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Eydie Polk; his children; his grandchildren; his sisters, Marsha (Brian) Queen and Martha (Butch) Fox; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. His children, Ed (Jessica) Gross of Gauley Bridge, West Virginia, Tony (Jennifer) Gross of Shady Spring, West Virginia, Shaun (Cassie) Gross of Surveyor, West Virginia, Scott, Daniel, and Josh, along with their families, of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia
Wayne leaves behind his grandchildren: Michael (Ashley), Jacob (Olivia), Josie, Kaine, Nathan, Tatum, Savannah, Nichole, Michael, Dante, Persephone Rose, and Darren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Elmer Elkins and Stella Victoria Hess Polk; his brother, David Polk; and his sisters, Stella and Fran.
Wayne’s life was a testament to his faith, his love for his family, and his willingness to serve others. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, faith, and countless memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Though their hearts are broken by his passing, his family takes comfort in knowing that Wayne is now home with Jesus, free from pain and suffering and in the presence of the Lord he faithfully served throughout his life.
The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone from Hospice of Southern West Virginia who came to Wayne’s home and provided compassionate care, comfort, and support during his final days. Their kindness and dedication will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
