William F. Richmond, Jr, "Bill", an honorable man, died July 6, 2026 from natural causes at CAMC, Charleston, West Virginia. 

Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeannie Wheatley Richmond. He is also survived by his son, Scott Richmond, his wife, Anna, and their children, Alex and Sara, of Dayton, OH and also by his daughter, Christy Richmond Holliday, her husband, Michael, and their son, Andrew, of Concord, NC. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Richmond White, of Edmond, OK and her children, Missie and Paul (Raye) and brother, Dr. John Richmond and his wife, Agnes of Dalton, GA, and their children, Mac (Alex) and Andy (CeCe), Mason and Liz. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Fred Richmond and Mary Jane Richmond, and brother-in-law, Dr. John White. 

Bill was a 1967 graduate of Marshall University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and he did not predict that his future would involve law. After his undergraduate years, he worked as a juvenile probation officer and social worker. The judge Bill worked under suggested he attend law school. He took that advice. 

In 1972, Bill received his law degree from the University of Tennessee and was admitted to the West Virginia Bar. From then on he worked in private practice in Beckley. 

Bill was an associate at Bowers, Hodson & Henderson from 1974 to 1976 and was a partner at Bowers, Hodson, Henderson & Richmond from 1976 to 1984. He was a partner at Abrams, Byron, Henderson & Richmond from 1984 to 1996. Bill established Richmond Law Office in 1996 and continued then until his death. From 1990 to 1993, he was an associate professor of real property law and administrative law for the paralegal program at the College of West Virginia. During that time, Bill also served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Raleigh County for ten (10) years. 

Bill was recognized for meritorious service in 1999 by the West Virginia Homebuilders Association and was the recipient of the 2014 West Virginia Homebuilder's Presidential Award. 

For 40 years, Bill represented employers in workers compensation and the federal black lung program. In one case, Bill had a reversal in the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals and established a significant ruling that helped employers in the Federal Black Lung Program. He was a member of the American Bar Association, American Judicature Society and Defense Trial Council of West Virginia. He also served as President of the Raleigh County Bar Association. 

Bill contributed to the community as President of the Woodrow Wilson High School Alumni Association and an organizer of Class Reunions for Woodrow Wilson High Schools Class of 1962. Bill served as President of the Beckley Human Rights Commission, served on the Board of Directors of Beckley Area Foundation, as well as the Board of Directors of the Historic Landmark Committee. He served as general Counsel for the Southern West Virginia Home Builders Association, served on their Board of Directors and was instrumental in establishing the West Virginia Homebuilders Scholarship Fund. 

A memorial service will be held at the Amos E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, WV on Saturday, July 25, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
